JULY/AUGUST ISSUE

Posted by Editor On JULY - 18 - 2011

Time flies, can you believe we are already past the half year mark? Just the other day we welcomed the New Year with long lists of resolutions. Well, the year doesn’t feel so new anymore, it’s that time of the year when energy levels sink, we get sucked into the routine of life and many times become complacent. All these are symptoms of Mid Year blues.

MAY/JUNE ISSUE

Posted by Editor On JULY- 18 - 2011

Growing up, I was a ‘someday girl’. I had dreams of someday publishing a book, someday working for a newspaper, someday being an editor, someday. Until one day many years later I woke up to the realization that someday was today; the only assurance we have, not 2 years from now or tomorrow but today.

APRIL ISSUE

Posted by Editor On JULY - 18 - 2011

For some April habitually brings in to mind Spring; sunshine, blooming flowers, the green of trees and sliding into flip flops. For me, April is just April because luckily where I live the beauty of ‘Spring’ and getting high on Vitamin D is something I experience every day.

MARCH ISSUE

Posted by Editor On JULY - 18 - 2011

As I kid, one of my all time favorite TV shows was 'The Jefferson’s'. As I write this, the theme song is playing in my head. “Well we’re movin’ on up, to the east side, moving on up, to a deluxe apartment in the sky. Moving on up, to the east side, moving on up,we finally got a piece of the pie.

FEBRUARY ISSUE

Posted by Editor On JULY - 18 - 2011

February is a special month, apart from the red roses, boxes of chocolate, great deals and the romance, it’s also the month we celebrate the history and contributions of African American men and women to society in the name of Black History Month.

DECEMBER ISSUE

Posted by Editor On JULY - 18 - 2011

The year has literally flown by, I can't believe it's already December. To many, December is a month of in depth self evaluation and stock taking; taking that walk down memory lane to see if you accomplished the goals you set at the beginning of the year. It's also about looking at your present to see what has worked for you or what you need to eliminate before you head on to the new year.

A Match Made In Heaven

Finding the right foundation is like finding the perfect partner. You search long and hard, go on countless dates in the hope of finding the right one, but sometimes the search can leave you feeling disheartened and disappointed.
Fear not ladies, all is not lost! There are some really good brands out there for women of colour. So follow these simple steps and I assure you, that you and your foundation will live happily ever after.

Identify your type

Before a woman starts dating, it is important for her to identify her type. This can help to narrow down your search and make it easier for you to find the perfect match. The same goes when you are looking for the right foundation. Identifying your skin type can help you to choose the right one for you. For example if you have oily skin that is prone to blemishes and spots, then its best to use a foundation that is oil free. The benefit of this is that it will not clog your pores and will help to eliminate shine and blemishes.

Playing the field

Before making a commitment to buy a foundation, it is essential that you do your research and try different brands before you buy. You wouldn’t say yes to a guy you met, if he proposed to you on your first date; so why would you commit to buying a foundation without trying out as many brands as you can first?. Many of the makeup companies have consultation services on the counter. Take full advantage of these services, take home samples and ask your friends for honest advice, before making the commitment to buying a product. Evaluate your options and do not just settle for the first thing you see.

Foundation with benefits

Whatever your skin concern, I can guarantee you that there is a foundation out there that can benefit you. Cosmetic companies understand that women of today want products that can multi-task and fulfil all their needs. As a result they have come up with innovative formulas to tackle an array of skin concerns. Not only can a foundation provide you with coverage, but they can also help with anything from anti-ageing, sensitivity and loss of radiance. If firmness is one of your main concerns, then look for a foundation that promotes firming and is enriched with antioxidants. Make sure your foundation caters to your needs and benefits you.

Live happily ever after…

We all know how the fairytale story Cinderella ends. Prince charming brings the glass slipper and it’s a perfect fit. Life isn’t always a fairytale, but with the right choices and discovering what is right for you, it can help you to make the right decision. The moral of this story is to enjoy the process of finding what is right for you. From finding prince charming or that perfect foundation, make sure it’s right for you and live happily ever after.

  1. Anonymous Said,

Lovely to read the article posted by Adeola about finding the right foundation. I have oily skin and used so many foundations, most did not suit my skin until I found "makeup forever". Yes, finding the right foundation can be like finding the right man after many failed relationships. I agree that trying out samples and consultations is the right way to go.
